Happening MGH Revere road race and health fair
The MGH
Revere HealthCare Center will hold its fourth annual road race May 12, at 8:30 am
along Revere Beach. Registration will begin at 7:15 am for the 5-mile race and the first
100 runners will receive free T-shirts. All proceeds will benefit the MGH Revere Teen
Center. The center also will host a "fun run" for kids under 12 at 9:30 am, as
well as a health fair with screenings, raffles and entertainment from 8 to 11 am. For more

AMMP scholarships
The Association of Multicultural Members of Partners
(AMMP) now is accepting applications for the 2001 AMMP scholarships. All Partners minority
employees, in good standing and employed for at least one year, are eligible to receive up
to $1,000. Applicants must be accepted into part-time or full-time programs of study and
should be willing to commit at least 20 hours of service to AMMP if chosen as scholarship
recipients. All applications must be received by June 15. For more information or to

Women's health
celebration
"Celebrating Women: A Vibrant, Healthy
Lifestyle" will be held May 17, from 5:30 to 9 pm at Beachmont School, 15 Everard St.
in Revere. The event is presented by the MGH Back Bay, Charlestown, Chelsea, Everett and
Revere HealthCare Centers, and is sponsored by MGH Community Health Associates (CHA), the
MGH Quit Smoking Service, MGH Community Benefits, the East Boston Neighborhood Health
Center, the Massachusetts Prevention Center, the Massachusetts Tobacco Control Program,
North End Community Health Center, Revere CARES, Revere Public Schools and the Revere
Board of Health. Featured speakers will include Mallika Marshall, MD, of the MGH Chelsea
HealthCare Center and a WBZ-TV Channel 4 medical consultant; Nancy Rigotti, MD, director
of the MGH Tobacco Research and Treatment Center, who will discuss "Benefits of a
Smoke-Free Life;" and Kathryn Teng, MD, of the MGH Revere HealthCare Center. The
celebration also will feature free screenings, raffles and contests. For more information,

Infertility seminar
The MGH Employee Assistance
Program (EAP) will sponsor "Surviving Infertility," a presentation and
counseling session for individuals and couples struggling with infertility, May 10, noon
to 1 pm in the Wellman Conference Room. Carol Frost Vercollone, LICSW, an infertility
counselor, will discuss methods of coping with impaired fertility. For more information,

Job Shadow Day
The MGH/Timilty
Partnership will participate in the City of Boston's third annual Middle School Job
Shadow Day, May 22, from 9 am to 1:30 pm. MGH employees are encouraged to host seventh
grade students from the James P. Timilty Middle School. Employees interested in hosting a
student at their work site should contact the Partnership by May 10 at (617) 724-3210.

HOPES Program events
The MGH Cancer Center's HOPES (Helping Our Patients and Families through
Education and Support) Program will offer several events and seminars this month."The
Cancer Center By Foot: A Walking Tour of the MGH Cancer Center" will be held May 7,
noon to 1 pm. Expressive arts therapist Elizabeth Cook will present "The Healing
Power of Creative Expressions," May 8, 15 and 22, from 1 to 2 pm. Jill Oravitz, RD,
of MGH Nutrition and Food Services, will discuss "Food Myths and Cancer," May 9,
from 1 to 1:30 pm. Cancer survivor Ron Plamondon and Joan Gallagher, EsD, RNCS, AOCN, of
MGH Patient Care Services, will facilitate "What If My Cancer Comes Back? Dealing
With Fears of Recurrence," May 9, from noon to 1 pm. Instructor Luba Zagachin will
hold a yoga class, May 10, from noon to 1 pm. Regina Holdstock, RPh, of MGH Oncology
Pharmacy, will present "Sensible Sun Protection," May 11, from noon to 12:30 pm.

Skin cancer screening
The MGH Department of Dermatology Surgery will offer
a free skin cancer screening, May 15, from 5 to 7 pm in WACC 481. Screenings will be held
by appointment only and are open to all MGH employees and members of the public. For more

Family violence forum
The MGH Ethics Task Force will sponsor "Family
Violence: Who Protects the Child?" May 9, from 5 to 6 pm in the Walcott 2 Conference
Rooms, WACC. Panelists will include members of the MGH Child Protection Team and the HAVEN
(Hospitals Helping Abuse and Violence End Now) program. Refreshments will be served prior
