Leaders and heroes – the MGH celebrates nursing

051200nursingweek.jpg (7629 bytes)Jeanette Ives Erickson, RN, MS, (left), senior vice president for Patient Care Services and chief nurse, presented "Nurses: Leaders or Victims? Taking Control of Our Profession," as part of the MGH's celebration of National Nursing Week, May 8 through 12. Erickson's presentation focused on the empowerment of nurses, taking on leadership responsibilities at the MGH and the retention and recruitment of the best nurses in the United States. "We are here to celebrate your contributions to your patients and to the MGH," said Erickson. "They are our common bond to the health care profession." Other events throughout the week included seminars and presentations about therapeutic touch, persons with disabilities, research on cognitive therapy, vascular nursing and celebrating nurse heroes, as well as two staff nurse receptions and a trip to the Museum of Science.
