Jeanette Ives Erickson,
RN, MS, (left), senior vice president for Patient Care Services
and chief nurse, presented "Nurses: Leaders or Victims? Taking Control
of Our Profession," as part of the MGH's celebration of National
Nursing Week, May 8 through 12. Erickson's presentation focused on the
empowerment of nurses, taking on leadership responsibilities at the MGH
and the retention and recruitment of the best nurses in the United States.
"We are here to celebrate your contributions to your patients and
to the MGH," said Erickson. "They are our common bond to the
health care profession." Other events throughout the week included
seminars and presentations about therapeutic touch, persons with disabilities,
research on cognitive therapy, vascular nursing and celebrating nurse
heroes, as well as two staff nurse receptions and a trip to the Museum
of Science.
