Memorial service for John Penney, MD
A memorial service will be held for John B. "Jack" Penney Jr., MD, a neurologist at the MGH, May 22, 2 pm, at the First and Second Church, 60 Marlborough St. in Boston. Penney, a world-renowned researcher in Parkinson's and Huntington's diseases, died suddenly of a heart attack Jan. 31. Those who would like to contribute to the John B. Penney Jr., MD, Memorial Fund for Parkinson's Disease and Huntington's Disease, may send donations to the MGH Department of Neurology, VBK 915.

Child safety workshop
According to FBI statistics, by age 18, one in four girls and one in seven boys will have been molested at least once; one in 43 children will have been abducted. To educate parents about keeping their children safe, the Employee Assistance Program and the MGH Children's Center will host the nationally acclaimed training program Yellow Dyno Parent Workshop May 21, at noon, in the Larry Martin Conference Room, CNY Building 149. The workshop teaches parents the language and lessons to use to help children learn to recognize dangerous situations and act immediately. For more information, call 6-6976.

Selecting a childcare provider
In the next of its Work/Life Seminar Series, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will present "How to Select a Good Childcare Provider" May 20, noon to 1 pm, in the Larry Martin Conference Room, CNY Building 149. The program will discuss the pros and cons of various childcare arrangements and screening potential caregivers. For more information, call the EAP at 6-6976.

Schwartz Center Rounds
The next Kenneth B. Schwartz Center Rounds will take place May 21, noon to 1 pm, in the Walcott Conference Room. The topic of this month's rounds will be "The Complexities of Cancer, Pregnancy and Substance Abuse: A Case Review." Lunch will be served starting at 11:45 am. CME credits are available. Amateur photo contest
The MGH Photography Department encourages all MGH and Partners-affiliated employees to submit photos for its second annual photo contest. Contestants may submit up to two photographs, which should be unframed and no larger than 8 by 10 inches. Prizes will be awarded. Entry forms are available in the Photography Department, Bulfinch Basement 045; the parking desks in the Main Lobby and the Fruit Street Garage; and the Police and Security Office, Clinics Basement 044. Affirmative action at HMS
A presentation entitled "Reaffirming the Affirmative: A Recommitment of 30 Years of Affirmative Action at Harvard Medical School (HMS)," will take place May 24, 3 to 5 pm, in the Building D Amphitheater, HMS, 220 Longwood Ave. A reception will follow in the Courtyard Cafe. Angel Fund run and walk
The MGH Angel Fund supporting Lou Gehrig's disease research will sponsor the Jimmy Kennedy Memorial Run for ALS, June 12, 10 am, beginning at the Quincy Veteran's Stadium. In addition to this 5-mile run, there will be a 2.5-mile fitness walk beginning at 9:30 am. Jimmy Kennedy was an athlete, coach, scholar and teacher, who died of ALS at age 31, seven years after his father died of the same disease. For information, call (781) 383-6008.

PeopleSoft training
