  • Simply the best: MGH recognizes nurses
There were no guest speakers, Power Point presentations or slide shows. Instead, there were poignant clips from the television show "The West Wing," a mock television game show resembling "The Family Feud" and a rendition of the rock song "Simply the Best" by singer Tina Turner. This out-of-the-ordinary event was "MGH Nursing: The Journey of a Lifetime," held May 9 in the O'Keeffe auditorium to honor MGH nurses during Nurse Recognition Week, May 5 to 12.

Martinos Center, a collaboration among the MGH, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School, located at the MGH NMR Center at CNY. A powerful 7-Tesla MRI system and a 306-channel magnetoencephalographic (MEG) system will give Martinos Center researchers an unprecedented ability to study the brain's normal activity and how that activity is disturbed by addictive behaviors and neurologic or psychiatric illnesses.

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death. Karll, who was diagnosed with the disease a year ago, continues to receive chemotherapy to control her cancer, which is inoperable. She is determined in her current battle, and she also is determined to do something to help others with this disease.
