MGH Office for Women's Careers announces awards

The MGH Office for Women's Careers (OWC) recently announced the establishment of two new awards to be given to junior women faculty. Similar to the Claflin Distinguished Scholar Awards in funding and selection criteria, the awards are designed to facilitate the academic careers of women in science at the MGH. The funding for these two awards was made possible through the generosity of an anonymous donor to the OWC.

"The hospital recognizes that a significant obstacle to career advancement for women researchers is the difficulty of maintaining productivity during the child-rearing years," says Suzanne Metallo, associate director of the OWC. "It is intended that this transitional funding will increase opportunities for women to advance to senior positions in academic medicine."

Applications for the OWC award should be submitted by June 29. For information about award criteria, visit the MGH Research Affairs website at http://mghra.partners.org/news/June00news.html#anchor736577.
