A thousand
wishes for peace and health College students from Showa
Boston — a local campus of Showa Women's University in Japan — made more than
1,000 paper cranes in the Japanese tradition as a wish for peace and good health for the
MGH Cancer Survivors Conference May 13.

hospital's services for help in turning her life around Colleen Mackesey, RN, an Anesthesia manager, spent 14 years of her
life in fear. A survivor of domestic violence, Mackesey attributes her ability to break
away from her former life to the help she received from MGH Police
and Security and the Employee Assistance Program.
Never frown when there's
a clown When "Clodette"
came to work one day at the MGH and rode the elevator up to Ellison 18, she and her
companions looked and acted a bit odd. That's because she and her friends were just
doing their jobs as members of Jeannie Lindheim's Hospital Clown Troupe, a group of
volunteer clowns who bring cheer to young patients in some of the
area's hospital.
MGH Office for Women's
Careers announces awards The MGH Office for Women's Careers (OWC) recently announced the
establishment of two new awards to be given to junior women faculty. Similar to the
Claflin Distinguished Scholar Awards in funding and selection criteria, the awards are
designed to facilitate the academic careers of women in science at the
MGH.
Helping children with
autism MassGeneral Hospital for
Children and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital recently co-hosted an open house for a
pediatric program to help children with pervasive developmental disorder, autism
and other related learning and developmental disorders.
