Honoring,
remembering and reminiscing with bone marrow transplant patients Matthew Bacchi, 4, (left), and his mother, Theresa, enjoy the tricks of
magician Steve Lechner at the third biannual Bone Marrow Transplant Patient Reunion June
1. The Bacchis were among the nearly 200 former patients and family members who came to be
honored and remembered by the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. The event also included food,
door prizes and brief speeches from Thomas R. Spitzer, MD, medical director of the Bone
Marrow Transplant Unit, and Steven L. McAfee, MD, and Robert Sackstein, MD, both
physicians on the unit. "This event is meant to be fun," says Cathleen Poliquin,
RN, a nurse practitioner on the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. "But more than that,
it's a chance for us to honor the patients and their families, even those who are no
longer living." |
