• MGH invests in the future of East Boston High School students
  East Boston High School graduates will get a little extra help in their pursuit of a career in health care, thanks to a new scholarship and educational commitment made by the MGH. At the high school's awards ceremony June 3, Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH, presented four scholarships to East Boston High School graduates who have participated in the hospital's ProTech internship program. The scholarships total $5,000 and will be made annually.

• MGH hosts Alzheimer's Disease Research Center's anniversary symposium
  Researchers from around the world gathered June 4 for the Massachusetts Alzheimer's Disease Research Center's (ADRC) 20-year anniversary Scientific Day Celebration, hosted by MGH Neurology. Held at the Shriner's Hospital Auditorium, the day-long symposium featured highlights of current cutting-edge Alzheimer's research, along with comments from Joseph B. Martin, MD, dean of Harvard Medical School and former chief of MGH Neurology.
  

• Author Sue Miller gives poignant reading
  MGH employees, family caregivers and health care providers from the community gathered in the Walcott Conference Rooms May 18 to listen to local author Sue Miller read excerpts
  from her latest book, "The Story of My Father."

• PrimeCare Elder Service Program expands and introduces website
  The MGH PrimeCare program — an elder care program that serves MGH patients, physicians, employees and their families — recently has expanded its services and support following a successful six-month development effort. The PrimeCare program can make a significant difference in the lives of elders and their families.

• Pledging to protect patients
  MGHers throughout the hospital are pledging to protect their patients by using CalStat before and after patient contact. Eight of these employees are featured on the most recent set of hand hygiene posters that recently were distributed around the hospital.
  

• Batter up: Partners staff play ball
  Partners HealthCare staff members stepped up to the plate June 2 to support Boston's anti-poverty agency — Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) — in the seventh annual ABCD Field of Dreams softball game at Fenway Park.
