  • Summer fun without the sun
    Even without the sunny weather and warm summer temperatures, MGHers gathered under the Bulfinch tent and on the lawn for the annual summer picnic June 12, hosted by Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH.
  • Top-quality science has its day
    The 200 scientific abstracts and presentations featured at the MGH's first Clinical Research Day, held June 6, reflected the great range and top quality of the hospital's patient-focused research efforts.
  • Family of visionary leader in nursing visits MGH
    Ruth Sleeper, RN, truly was ahead of her time. As director of MGH Nursing and the former MGH School of Nursing from 1946 to 1966, she helped pave the way for the advancement of the nursing profession. Known for her countless contributions to education and research, Sleeper earned a reputation as an icon in the field of nursing here at the MGH and across the country. Recognizing this visionary leader, the MGH paid tribute to Sleeper at a reception June 13, attended by Sleeper's niece, Nancy Sleeper Kolbe, and Sleeper Kolbe's three daughters.
  • MGH president's response to Boston Globe article about Yawkey Foundation
    The Boston Globe recently printed a letter from Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH, in response to a Globe article that criticized the Yawkey Foundation's support of larger charitable organizations such as the MGH. Last year, the Yawkey Foundation gave a gift of $25 million to the MGH to help build the hospital's new ambulatory care building.
  • Magnet site visit completed
    Spirits were high. Grateful appreciation was given. Hard work and preparations were proudly demonstrated. The much-anticipated site visit for the Magnet hospital recognition survey at the MGH came to an end June 12.
  • MGH caregivers fight poverty on the ball field
    MGH physicians and caregivers had an opportunity to help fight poverty — and have their childhood sports dreams fulfilled — when they played softball June 5 at Fenway Park. Partners HealthCare was among 18 Boston-area employers who contributed funds to participate in the sixth annual Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) Field of Dreams benefit.
  • In memoriam: Donna Marie Grenier, RNP
    Donna Marie Grenier, RNP, an MGH nurse practitioner and nurse manager in the Walk-in Unit at the MGH Chelsea HealthCare Center, died June 2 at age 43.
  • Two-Way Talk available
    The latest issue of the hospital's community publication, Two-Way Talk, now is available to MGH employees and members of neighboring communities.
