  Preliminary work to demolish the east wing of the Charles Street Jail has begun, a major step toward construction of a new ambulatory care building and underground garage.

• MGH addresses safety standards: revised policy introduced
  New rules set by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) require hospitals to tell patients if they have been harmed as a result of a medical error. That focus already has been present at the MGH for years.

• MGH Orthopaedics pays tribute to Harris
  Visiting physicians and friends from around the country and the world, along with MGH and Partners Orthopaedics, recently honored renowned MGH orthopaedic surgeon William H. Harris, MD, with a special two-day scientific symposium and black-tie banquet celebration.

• From bedside to ballfield for charity
  MGH and BWH physicians waged a friendly rivalry on the baseball diamond of Fenway Park July 13. The day-long "Field of Dreams" event raised funds for Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD), Boston's oldest anti-poverty organization.

• In memoriam
  Khosrow Momtaz, MD, of the MGH Dermatology Service, died May 20 at the age of 53.
