New president of Dana-Farber

Edward Benz, MD, recently was named as new president of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and chief executive of Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare, succeeding David G. Nathan, MD, who is retiring. Benz will begin at Dana-Farber this fall.

He is currently the Sir William Osler Professor of Medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is the president of the American Society of Hematology and is past president of the American Society of Clinical Investigation.

"Finding Dr. Benz is like finding an old friend," says Gary Countryman, chairman of the Dana-Farber Board of Trustees. "He is well known and well liked by many members of our own faculty, the faculties of the MGH, BWH and Children's Hospital, and by faculty members at Harvard Medical School. An excellent clinician, teacher and investigator, he will lead all of our programs with distinction and will see to it that our vital interactions with our colleagues at Harvard Medical School, its affiliated hospitals and the Harvard School of Public Health will be fostered."
