IHP hosts DNC delegates briefing
The MGH Institute of Health Professions (IHP) and its president, Ann W.
Caldwell, hosted a Democratic National Convention (DNC) delegates briefing,
"Health Care Reform and the Election" July 28 at its facility
at CNY. Guest speakersincluded Congressman John F. Tierney and keynote
speaker Donald M. Berwick, MD, MPP. Tierney, who represents the sixth
congressional district of Massachusetts,
regularly advocates for providing access to high quality health care to
all Americans, including a Medicare prescription drug benefit for seniors.
Berwick, president and CEO of the Institute for HealthCare Improvement
a Boston-based nonprofit organization is dedicated to improving
the quality of health care systems through fostering collaboration among
health care organizations and their leaders. Former president Bill Clinton
appointed Berwick to serve on the Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection
and Quality in the Healthcare Industry in 1997 and 1998. In 2002, the
weekly trade publication Modern Healthcare ranked Berwick the third most
powerful person in American health care.
Many convention delegates and elected officials from Massachusetts and
the rest of New England attended the event.
