MGH IHP hosts DNC delegates briefing

The MGH Institute of Health Professions (IHP) and its president, Ann W.
Caldwell, hosted a Democratic National Convention (DNC) delegates briefing, "Health Care Reform and the Election" July 28 at its facility at CNY. Guest speakersincluded Congressman John F. Tierney and keynote speaker Donald M. Berwick, MD, MPP. Tierney, who represents the sixth congressional district of Massachusetts, regularly advocates for providing access to high quality health care to all Americans, including a Medicare prescription drug benefit for seniors. Berwick, president and CEO of the Institute for HealthCare Improvement — a Boston-based nonprofit organization — is dedicated to improving the quality of health care systems through fostering collaboration among health care organizations and their leaders. Former president Bill Clinton appointed Berwick to serve on the Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection and Quality in the Healthcare Industry in 1997 and 1998. In 2002, the weekly trade publication Modern Healthcare ranked Berwick the third most powerful person in American health care.

Many convention delegates and elected officials from Massachusetts and the rest of New England attended the event.
