  • Food, fun and fiesta
    For the 10th consecutive year, the MGH Chelsea HealthCare Center was a major sponsor of the annual Latin American Festival at the Mystic Mall in Chelsea, Aug. 3 to 5. The weekend celebration recognizes the pride of heritage felt throughout the Latin American culture with food, music, a parade and a carnival.
  • Construction progresses for new Yawkey Center
    A large steel beam was eased gently into place July 12, marking the beginning of construction of the structural frame for the MGH's new Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care. Construction of the hospital's much-needed ambulatory care building, slated to open in 2004, continues on schedule.
  • Cambridge/Blossom Street Working Group: Building a bridge of progress
    In an effort to build a bridge of communication between the MGH and the surrounding community during the construction of the new Yawkey Center, the MGH has created a working group to focus on bringing neighboring communities the latest and most up-to-date information about the progress of ongoing construction projects.
  • Time-release stimulant improves ADHD treatment
    A research team, led by Joseph Biederman, MD, MGH director of Pediatric Psychopharmacology, has found that a long-acting form of the stimulant medication Adderall is effective in controlling symptoms of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children when taken in a single morning dose.
  • MGH newsletter "talks" to community
    The latest issue of the community-focused publication, Two-Way Talk, now is available to MGH employees and members of neighboring communities.
  • Maintaining business relationships: MGH establishes new vendor policy
    Along with the many patients, family members, visitors and employees who traverse the MGH corridors every day are up to 400 vendors who visit various departments and units. A committee was formed last year to develop a policy to help regulate vendors' visitations to the hospital.
  • Former governor visits MGH research lab
    Former Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis recently visited the MGH Day Neuromuscular Lab, which focuses on research into amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).
