MGH Clinical Pastoral Education Program
The deadline for applications for the Winter 2000 MGH Clinical Pastoral Education Program is Sept. 1. As the first such program designed to help health care professionals incorporate spirituality into their clinical care, the program trains caregivers – including physicians, nurses, therapists and social workers – to approach patients about their spiritual beliefs in a nonjudgmental, compassionate way. Six fellowships – two for MGH nurses and four for other direct care providers – are available. For more information about the program, call Rev. Mary Martha Thiel in the Chaplaincy Office at 6-2220.

PeopleSoft training
PeopleSoft online requisition classes are being offered through Dec. 28, Tuesdays, 8:30 am to noon, in Founders room 643. All participants should have a working knowledge of Windows software. To sign up for training, call 4-1388.

Anniversaries of public health agencies
The Massachusetts Public Health Association (MPHA) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) will celebrate their 120th and 130th anniversaries, respectively, Sept. 15, 2 to 6 pm, at Tewksbury Hospital. The program will feature a Commissioner's Summit moderated by Judith Kurland, the regional director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Featured panel participants include MDPH Commissioner Howard K. Koh, MD. The program is free to MPHA members, with a $10 donation requested from non-members. Substance abuse talk
Vinnie Scibelli, LICSW, MPH, of the North End Community Health Center, will present a talk on substance abuse Aug. 18, 6 to 8 pm, in the center's third floor conference room. The health center is located at 332 Hanover St., Boston. For more information, call 742-9570.

Golf tournament fundraiser
The second annual Andrew R. Marzilli Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit the MGH Cystic Fibrosis Research Fund and the MGH Lung Transplant Program will be held Sept. 27 at the Hillview Country Club in North Reading. Tee times start at  8 am. The cost for a day of golf, including lunch, is $100; $25 for lunch only. Entry forms must be postmarked by Sept 14. Marzilli was a double-lung recipient who died two years ago at age 19.
