Senior HealthWISE
MGH Senior HealthWISE will hold glaucoma screenings Aug. 23, from 4 to 5 pm in the Walcott Conference Rooms. Laura Fine, MD, and the Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston will provide glaucoma information, vision screenings and eye pressure checks. The screenings are for seniors 60 years and older, and are free of charge. For more information, call (617) 724-6756.

Symposium on cystic fibrosis
The MGH, MassGeneral Hospital for Children and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation are sponsoring the first annual Boston Cystic Fibrosis Symposium Sept. 13, from
7:20 am to 5 pm at Boston's Harvard Club. David Altshuler, MD, PhD, and Fred Ausubel, PhD, both from the MGH, will be speakers. Registration is required, and the symposium is limited to 125 participants. To register, visit www.mgh.harvard.edu/depts/medicine/cf_symposia/

New Materials Management service
Materials Management will have a grand opening for its new Customer Service Department Aug. 30 in the Gray Basement Mailroom reception area, room 030. The Customer Service Department was created to centralize all additional requests for services currently provided by Materials Management — linens, supply support, receiving and distribution, mail services and equipment. MGH Employee Assistance Program to move
The MGH Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will be moving Sept. 15 to 175 Cambridge St., third floor — the new building at Charles River Plaza. The EAP is
a consultation, short-term counseling, information and referral program for employees and their families. The EAP offers assistance with all types of personal, family or work-related problems. For more information, call (617) 726-6976.

Stoeckle Center seminar
The John D. Stoeckle Center for Primary Care Innovation will host a seminar "Winners and Losers Redux: What are the Legal Issues in Evidence-Based Medicine?" Sept. 24, from 7:30 to 9 am in the Walcott Conference Rooms. Guest speakers include Michael J. Barry, MD, medical director of the Stoeckle Center and chief of the MGH General Medicine Unit, and Benjamin W. Moulton, MPH, executive director of the American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics. Design and conduct of clinical trials course
The Education Unit of the Clinical Research Program in collaboration with the MGH Cancer Center will offer an intensive course "Design and Conduct of Clinical Trials" Mondays and Thursdays in September and October, from 5 to 6:15 pm in the Trustees Conference Room. The goal of the course is to guide clinical investigators with a serious interest in clinical trials research through the theoretical and practical issues. Participants will be expected to present a trial design at the completion of the course. The course fee is $200 and includes the textbook Fundamentals of Clinical Trials. Telemedicine fall conference
Partners Telemedicine will hold a one-day conference that will help health care providers and administrators connect with stakeholders from health care finance, the telecommunications and information technology industries, legal firms, public health and the media. "Optimizing Care Through Communication Technologies: Fulfilling the Promise of E-Medicine, Telehealth, Telemedicine and E-Health" will be held Sept. 27, from 7 am to 4:15 pm at the new conference center at Harvard Medical School on Avenue Louis Pasteur. MGH and Partners employees are invited to register before Sept. 10 and take advantage of the employee "early bird" registration rate of $225 or $150 for fellows and students. Continental breakfast and a buffet lunch are included in the fee.Samuel O. Thier, MD, former president and CEO of Partners, and Joseph Kvedar, MD, director of Partners Telemedicine, will be two of more than 20 speakers and panelists. Registration is limited.
