  • World-class web: Phase two of improved MGH website complete
    Since the introduction of the new and improved MGH website last summer, web users have been able to access information about the hospital with ease. This June, phase two of the hospital's web redesign was completed, offering even more information and easier access to the MGH world-class services.
  • MGHers give blood, save lives and have fun
    The MGH Blood Donor Center Employee Appreciation Weeks began this week with a flip of a pancake and a soothing stress-relieving massage. Donors were treated to a pancake breakfast Aug. 19, complete with sweet syrup and whipped cream. They were treated to a relaxing massage Aug. 20 by student Michelle Yau from the Massage Institute of New England who soothed away any post-donation stresses.
  • Final changes to patient privacy regulations
    The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published last week the final modifications to the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the first-ever comprehensive federal regulations that give patients sweeping protections over the privacy of their medical records and information.
  • Grateful patient praises MGH staff
    Linked here is a thank-you letter sent to James J. Mongan, MD, president of the MGH, from a family member of a patient who received care here.
  • Hand hygiene message: "Did you use CalStat?"
    As part of the MGH Hand Hygiene Program, posters have been distributed throughout the hospital this week to remind MGHers to practice good hand hygiene both before and after patient contact. By using CalStat the waterless hand disinfectant available on all inpatient units, outpatient practices and health centers employees and staff can reduce the risk of spreading infections.
  • Ask questions, get answers at the Partners town meeting
    Samuel O. Thier, MD, current president and chief executive officer of Partners HealthCare, will discuss a variety of topics related to Partners at a town meeting Sept. 23, from 10 to 11 am, in the O'Keeffe Auditorium.
  • In memoriam
    William C. Quinby, Jr., MD, a general, pediatric and burn surgeon at the MGH for half a century, died Aug. 15. He was 88. He served on the MGH surgical staff from 1946 to 1966 and was a founding surgeon of the MGH Burn Unit until his retirement.
