memoriam: Guillermo Sanchez, MD Guillermo C. Sanchez, MD, a physician at the MGH for more than 50 years, died last week of prostate cancer at his home. He was 75. As an internist and primary care physician who was fluent in five languages, Sanchez treated many international patients. He closed his practice in July. Sanchez also was a medical historian and took a special interest in the history of the hospital. He published a number of historical articles including one about the development of ether anesthesia in the 1840s, which he presented in 1996 at the national 150th Ether Symposium. In 1995, he was elected to serve as chairman of the first MGH Archives Committee, a position he held until his death. A memorial service will be held at the MGH at a future date. Sanchez leaves his wife Sylvia, seven children and 10 grandchildren. |
