MGH president offers a pint to the cause

As the end of the annual blood donor challenge approaches, Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH, and Curt Smith, president of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI), did their part Sept. 9 in helping this side of town obtain the coveted position of most blood donations.

The challenge pits the "Boston Red Cells" — MGH, MEEI and Spaulding — against the "Green Monsters" — BWH and Dana-Farber — in a friendly competition to increase blood donations among employees. As Hotline goes to print, the

Red Cells have taken the lead with more than 250 donations. The Green Monsters trail with 235 donations.

By donating, Slavin and Smith hoped to create awareness about the competition and encourage employees to donate blood during competition time and beyond. The last day for the challenge is Sept. 12, but MGHers always are encouraged to donate blood. To make an appointment to donate, call (617) 726-8177.
