JCAHO surveyors
put MGHers through their paces
Surveyors
from the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
(JCAHO) survey team traveled the hallways of the MGH this week, inspecting
inpatient and outpatient areas, meeting with hospital administrators and
asking MGH employees about hospital policies and procedures. The JCAHO
survey, which takes place every three years, is a comprehensive review
of hospital programs, policies and procedures. Its goal is to help improve
the quality of care provided by accrediting health care organizations
that qualify after completion of a thorough inspection.
" It's going well," says Maryanne Spicer, chair of the JCAHO
steering committee, about the surveyors' progress. The hospital will receive
final word about the results of the JCAHO visit within the next few months.
