  • Study shows excessive antibiotic prescriptions for sore throats
    Most adult patients who see their doctors for a sore throat receive a prescription for an antibiotic, despite the fact that antibiotic treatment may be appropriate for only 10 percent of such patients. These findings, based upon research conducted at the MGH, appeared in the Sept. 12 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
  • In aftermath of tragedy, MGHers cope, console
    New York mayor Rudy Giuliani has encouraged New Yorkers and all Americans to try to return to their normal routines after the terrorist tragedy that struck the United States last week. Getting back to normal may seem to be an impossible task. But miles away from the sites of destruction, MGH employees are trying to do just that.

    Childcare options for employees of Partners, the MGH and the MGH Institute of Health Professions will expand with the opening of a new daycare center at the Catherine Filene Shouse Building formerly Building 36 at CNY.

    Thanks to a new offering through the MGH Cancer Center's HOPES (Helping Our Patients and Families through Education and Support) Program, patients and their families, friends and caregivers can find solace and support in artistic expression.
  • Looking through the lens: Photography Contest winner
    Many MGHers apparently love to look at life through a camera lens a fact made obvious by the enthusiastic response to the fourth annual MGH Amateur Photography Contest. Sponsored by the MGH Photography Department, the contest drew 110 entries from amateur shutterbugs throughout the hospital community.
