The Cancer Center Patient and Family
Support Program (PFSP) is offering "Managing Lymphadema [arm and leg swelling]
through Exercise," Sept. 27, noon to 1 pm; "Parenting in Challenging Times:
Drop-in Support Group for Parents," Sept. 28, 11 am to noon; "Sexually Speaking:
An Interactive Discussion about Intimacy Issues while Living with Ovarian Cancer,"
Sept. 28, noon to 1 pm. All seminars are held in the Cancer Resource Room on Cox 1.

New ultrasound suite
The construction of a new eight-room ultrasound suite was recently completed on White 2.
This improvement of the facility is part of Radiology's master space plan. The new suite
will be open for operation starting Oct. 4. All outpatients scheduled for ultrasound
examinations should take the Blake/Ellison elevators to Blake 2 Radiology Reception where
they will be directed to the new ultrasound suite. For more information, call 4-0217.
Deadline extended for Partners in Excellence Award
The deadline for nominations for the Partners in Excellence Award has been extended to
Sept. 27. Nominations can be submitted through in-house mail: Partners in Excellence

Lecture about managed care policy issues
The Department of
Radiation Oncology and the MGH
Cancer Center are sponsoring a lecture series about nonclinical issues in health
care. The Sept. 29 lecture will cover managed care policy issues and will be held in
Lawrence House, 5 to 6 pm. The lecture can be viewed by satellite at Emerson Hospital. The
guest speaker will be Nancy Turnbull, MBA, of the Harvard School of Public Health. For

Legal issues in domestic violence
Christina Harms, judge for Norfolk Probate and Family Court, and James Ptacek, assistant
professor of Sociology at Suffolk University and author of "Battered Women in the
Courtroom: The Power of Judicial Responses," will speak about legal issues in
domestic violence. The program will be held Oct. 7 in the Wellman Conference Room, noon to

Mitch Albom, author of "Tuesdays with Morrie," will be the keynote speaker at
the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center's annual dinner, Oct. 19 at the Westin Hotel in Copley

Clinical research coordinator training session
The Clinical
Research Program is sponsoring "Conducting Clinical Research Studies,"
presented by Lorraine Ellis, MBA, Oct. 6, 8:30 am to 5 pm, Wellman 101. The program will
include instruc- tion in the roles of research staff, good clinical practice, the study
initiation process, ongoing study activities, closing a study and Food and Drug

Career development series
Mass. Medical Society, Harvard Medical School and several other local organizations are
sponsoring a career development series for physicians in postdoctoral training, junior
faculty and residents. The first lecture will cover how to run effective meetings, Oct.
19, 5:15 pm to 7:30 pm at the Longwood Galleria Conference Center. The speaker will be
Harry L. Greene II, MD, executive vice president of the Massachusetts Medical Society.

MGH Marathon Team 2000
The MGH
Marathon Team will have a limited number of pre-approved marathon numbers for the
Boston Marathon on April 17, 2000. Team members must raise a minimum of $2,000 to support MGH Pediatric Cancer Research
