  • Remembering those who are impossible to forget
    "Stephen would say to me, "promise you'll never forget me," and I never will, nor will the many people who were touched by him." These words were spoken by Carole Trainor about her son, Stephen, who died Feb. 13, 2001 at the young age of 8 after a grueling battle with adrenoleukodystrophy, a rare metabolic disorder.
  • Appreciation for the most precious gift
    MGHers realize the need and know how important it is to donate blood and platelets to help MGH patients. For fiscal year 2003, approximately 2,249 donations to the MGH Blood Donor Center came from MGH employees.
  • New ALS research effort supported by CVS donation
    A new research initiative to battle against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), was
    announced Oct. 31. At a kickoff event, held at the MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease at CNY Building 114, MGH physician Robert Brown, MD, PhD, who is leading the effort, described how the program will use the latest scientific approaches to develop potential new treatments for the illness, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
  • MGHer selected for Institute of Medicine
    Rakesh K. Jain, PhD, director of the Edwin L. Steele Laboratory of Tumor Biology in the MGH Department of Radiation Oncology, recently was named as one of the 65 new members of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Sciences.
  • Strategic Planning Spotlight: Clinical Growth Task Force
    Since the MGH embarked on an intensive strategic planning effort to determine the future direction of its clinical programs, members of seven task forces have been meeting, planning and preparing to make recommendations to the Strategic Planning Steering Committee. Hotline is highlighting the work of some of these task forces.
