Institute
to relocate to Charlestown Navy Yard The MGH Institute of Health Professions has found a new permanent home in Charlestown Navy Yard a sprawling 19th-century granite building, located near several MGH and Partners research and office buildings. Known as Building 36, the structure will undergo some renovations to accommodate the needs of the Institute before the move in 2002. Currently, the Institute faculty, administrative offices and classrooms are located at 101 Merrimac St., along with other MGH departments as well as non-MGH entities. With the new facility, the Institute will initially occupy the first three floors of the four-story building and will rent space on the first floor to a day care center. "We are very excited about moving to this new, larger building," says Ann W. Caldwell, president of the Institute. "This move will allow us enough space for our current programs as well as for our future growth." A project team that includes Caldwell, staff, faculty, students and an architectural firm, selected Spaulding & Slye as the project manager to help the team develop extensive plans for the architectural design, renovations and the ultimate transition into the new building. For more information about the new building, call Lillian Johnson at 726-4276.
