Department
of Surgery employees receive STAR treatment
E mployees from the MGH Department of Surgery gathered Nov. 14 in the
Sweet Conference Room to acknowledge the recipients of the STAR (Surgery
Tribute And Recognition) program award. The goal of the STAR program,
which began in October 2002, is to recognize non-physician employees and
teams of employees in the Department of Surgery for their outstanding
work, commitment and contribution to the MGH's mission of excellence.

The individual recipients were Mary Ellen Maguire, Katie Young, Rona Cavallaro,
Sharon Burke, Jerrell Williams, Dixierell Rodriguez, Iraida Gonzalez,
Arthur Foubert, Pearlie Traylor, Elizabeth Gilroy and Arline Whyel. In
addition, Michelle Picard, RN, Janice Mckinnon-Heavey, RN, Barbara Fee,
ANP, Pat Olsen, Nancy Sceery, Colleen Fritz and Lisa O'Connor were recognized
for their teamwork in the Nutritional Support Unit. Each recipient received
a certificate, a small gift and a STAR t-shirt.
Speakers Debra Doroni, administrative director for the Department of Surgery,
and Ann Prestipino, senior vice president for MGH Surgery, Anesthesia
and Cardiac Program, applauded the efforts of the recipients. Doroni also
read a letter from Andrew Warshaw, MD, MGH surgeon-in-chief, congratulating
and thanking the STAR recipients for the work they do.
Nominations for the 2004 STAR program are welcomed from anyone who has
experienced excellent service or outstanding work from a Department of
