MGH clubs reap rewards for donating blood

The MGH Bowling Club emerged victorious in a healthy competition over the summer to see which MGH club could give the most blood donations to the MGH Blood Donor Center. The Bowling Club and the Missing Links Cycling Club went head to head after both teams won the first round of the competition in May. To reward their generous donations and their competitive spirit, both clubs received funding support for club activities.

The club competition was a part of the hospitalwide employee blood drive to help the MGH Blood Donor Center maintain a safe and adequate blood supply and minimize the purchase of blood from outside agencies.

According to Rich Carson, administrative manager of the MGH Blood Donor Center, the additional donations from the MGH clubs helped boost the hospital's blood supply over the summer. "We appreciate the extra effort the club members made to donate blood during the summer months when the blood supply is traditionally low," he says. "We hope to see even more donations from employees as we now enter the holiday season, when donations are expected to decline again."

Located on the first floor of the Gray/Jackson Building, the center is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 6-8177.
