In Memoriam: Edward Peirson Richardson Jr., MD

Dr. Richardson.jpeg (307242 bytes)Edward Peirson Richardson Jr., MD, former director of MGH Neuropathology, died at his home in Brookline Nov. 30 of lymphoma. He was 80 years old.

Richardson joined the MGH Neurology Department in 1949 and served as director of Neuropathology for 30 years. He also was director of the hospital's Neuropathology training program for 38 years, helping to shape some of the leading physicians in the field.

He was known for his work on Huntington's and Alzheimer's diseases and originally described several brain disorders, including progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy.

A memorial service will be held Jan. 23, 2 pm at the First and Second Church, 66 Marlborough St. in Boston. For more information, call 6-5154.
