1998 MGH Warren
Triennial Prize award The MGH Executive Committee on Research has selected two recipients of the 1998 Warren Triennial Prize medal. The award is meant to recognize scientists who are outstanding in the fields of physiology, surgery or pathological anatomy. Paul Zamecnik, MD, MGH Department of Medicine, is recognized for his contributions to the study of antisense oligonucleotides. This is the third time Zamecnik has received this award. The co-recipient of the award is Christiane Nusslein-Volhard, MD, from Max-Planck Institut für Entwicklungbiologie in Germany. A Nobel prize winner, Nusslein-Volhard is recognized for her research in developmental genetics. First presented in 1871, the MGH Warren Triennial Prize was founded by J. Mason Warren in memory of his father, John Warren, MD, who was co-founder of the MGH and its first surgeon. The recipients will be honored at a special ceremony in 1999. |
