Ether Day honors MGHers

The MGH celebrates Ether Day Oct. 16, honoring 1,314 employees and staff who have worked at the hospital for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50 and 60 years. Festivities will take place 2 to 4 pm, with a ceremony at 2:30 pm, under the Bulfinch Tent.

On Ether Day, departments will give employees pins and colored flowers distinguishing years of service. This year, the honorees fall into the following categories:

  • 60-year employees/white roses (2)
  • 50-year employees/yellow roses (6)
  • 40-year employees/white and purple carnations (20)
  • 30-year employees/solid purple carnations (77)
  • 25-year employees/orange carnations (143)
  • 20-year employees/pink carnations (187)
  • 15-year employees/yellow carnations (171)
  • 10-year employees/white carnations (481)
  • 5-year employees/red carnations (227)

The annual Ether Day dinner for 20-, 25-, 30-, 40-, 50- and 60-year recipients will be held at the Sheraton Boston, Oct. 22. Invitations have been mailed to these employees' homes.
