What's happening Garage elevator construction
Renovations to improve the elevators in MGH's Fruit Street and Parkman Street garages,
begin Oct. 19 and are expected to continue through January. During this time, one elevator
will operate in each garage. To alleviate long waits during peak periods, a designated
shuttle service will transport people to their cars. Stairwells also are available in the
north and south ends of each garage. For more information, call Dave Ryan at 4-3786.
Pastoral care awareness
In recognition of National Pastoral Care Week Oct. 19 to 23, the MGH Chaplaincy will host
an information table outside the MGH General Store, Oct. 21, 11 am to 1 pm. For more

Back-up Child Care Center open house
All MGH employees are invited to an open house celebrating the grand opening of the
Back-up Child Care Center Oct. 21, 3 to 4 pm. Located in the Warren Lobby, the center
provides emergency child care services for children of MGHers when normal arrangements are
unavailable. Beginning Nov. 2, services will be extended to children of outpatients. The
center cares for children from age 15 months to 12 years and is open Monday through
Friday, 6:30 am to 6 pm. For more information, call 4-7100.
Online computer class registration
Partners Information Systems Training now has made computer workshop registration
available on its website http://www.pbt.com/partners.

Schwartz Center Rounds
All MGH caregivers are invited to the Schwartz Center Rounds Oct. 30, noon to 1 pm, in the
Walcott Conference Room. This month's discussion is entitled "Caring for the
Colleague Who Has Cancer." Lunch will be served starting at 11:45 am. To register,

Programs for cancer patients
The MGH Cancer Center Patient and Family Support Program will present the following
programs next week, noon to 1 pm, in the Cancer Resource Room, Cox 1: "Radiation and
Breast Cancer," Oct. 19; "Just What is Cancer Anyway?," Oct. 20; and

Tae Kwon Do
Learn self defense and get a workout by participating in the
MGH Tae Kwon Do program starting its new session Oct. 26. Classes will meet Mondays and

Alternative medicine seminar
Spaulding and the Harvard Medical School Department of Continuing Education will sponsor a
seminar, "Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Rehabilitation," Oct. 30,
from 8 am to 4:30 pm, at the George Sherman Union, Boston University. Tuition is $200, and
