What's happening

United Way campaign begins
The 1998 United Way campaign kicks off at the MGH Nov. 2. Pledge cards and campaign information will be distributed with paychecks Oct. 29 for employees who receive monthly paychecks and Nov. 5 for those paid weekly. MGHers who turn in their pledge cards will be eligible for weekly raffle prize drawings throughout the campaign, which ends Nov. 25. Stay tuned to Hotline, for more United Way campaign highlights. Nursing recruitment campaign launch
The MGH will launch a nursing recruitment campaign Oct. 27, 2 to 4 pm in the Main Corridor. Presentations will be given and exhibits will display recruitment ads. For more information, call 4-6317.

Bake sale
Pick up some Halloween goodies at a bake sale to benefit patients of MGH Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Oct. 27, 9:30 am, outside the MGH General Store.

Complementary medicine
MGH Women's Health Associates and the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center will co-sponsor a presentation series, "Complementary Medicine Approaches to Health and Illness." The next program, "Eastern Approaches to Healing: Acupuncture and Tai Chi," will take place Nov. 12, noon to 1 pm, in the Wellman Conference Room. Clinical Research Program
The Clinical Research Program (CRP) will sponsor a course entitled "Clinical Research Coordinator Workshop

Domestic violence awareness
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Domestic Violence Working Group and the HAVEN program will sponsor the presentation, "Silent Victims: Children Who Witness Domestic Violence," Oct. 29, noon to 1 pm, in Walcott Conference Room 2. For more information, call HAVEN at 4-0054.

Quit smoking
Celebrate the Great American Smokeout Nov. 19 as a nonsmoker with the help of the MGH Quit Smoking Service, which will be hosting an eight-week group program Tuesday evenings beginning Nov. 3, at 5:30 pm. The sessions will discuss nicotine replacement and Zyban, preparation for quitting, stress management, weight control and relapse prevention. Women's health symposium
The MGH Women's Health Committee will sponsor a free symposium about health concerns of women Oct. 27, 5:30 to 7:30 pm, with a reception at 5 pm, in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. Speakers from the MGH, BWH and Harvard Medical School will discuss such issues as stress management, healthy eating and weight, exercise, sleep problems and skin care issues.
