Antique ambulance finds
new home The MGH's original horse-drawn wooden ambulance has found a new home in the Main Lobby. Previously showcased in the Wellman Lobby, the 1873 ambulance was the first of its kind in the city when it began service. Stocked with stimulants, opiates and antidotes to common poisons, the ambulance was drawn up and down Boston's steep hills by a powerful draft horse. The ambulance was restored in the 1980s, and had originally been displayed in the lobby of the Wang Ambulatory Care Center. |
