Memorial service for Stephanie Macaluso, RN

A memorial service will be held for Stephanie Macaluso, RN, former clinical nurse specialist in the Ellison 19 Thoracic Surgical Service, Sept. 23, 12:30 to 1:30 pm, in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. A reception will follow until 3 pm in the Trustees Room, in the Bulfinch Building.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What's happening

Community Benefit report
The Partners Community Benefit Report will be mailed out to MGH leadership this week. The booklet reports the community benefit activities of Partners in fiscal year 1997 at the MGH, BWH and North Shore Medical Center. For the first time this year, McLean, Spaulding Rehabilitation and Shaughnessy Kaplan Rehabilitation hospitals also are included. To obtain a copy, call Pamela Freeman at 4-6424.

Surviving homework
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will begin its Work/Life Seminar Series with "Surviving Your Child's Homework," a presentation about how parents can help maximize their childrens' evening homework hours. The session is Sept. 24, noon to 1 pm, in Burr Conference Rooms 5 and 6, floor 3, Bartlett Hall Extension. For more information, contact the EAP at 6-6976.

Ethics forum
The MGH Ethics Task Force will present "Cultural Difference in End-of-Life Care," Sept. 24, 5 to 6 pm, in the Wellman Conference Room. Eric Krakauer, MD, of Palliative Care Services, will moderate the panel, which includes Deborah Washington, RN, director of Patient Care Services Diversity Program; Father Felix Ojimba, of the MGH Chaplaincy; and Winfred Williams, MD, director of the Office of Minority Health Professions. Deadline extended for Partners in Excellence nominations
The nomination deadline for the 1998 Partners in Excellence Award, which recognizes individuals and teams for exemplary contributions to Partners, has been extended to 5 pm, Sept. 25. Nomination forms are available through departmental supervisors and may be submitted via in-house mail to the Partners in Excellence Program, Learning and Diversity, Charles River Plaza, or by fax at 4-0931. Mentors for future scientists
The MGH/Timilty Partnership needs MGHers to serve as mentors for its Science Fair Mentoring Program. Mentors are paired with Timilty Middle School students to develop science projects for competition in the school's annual science fair. Mentor training will be provided on the following dates: Sept. 24, 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, in the Walcott Conference Rooms and Oct. 2, 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, in Conference Room A, first floor CNY Building 149. Schwartz Center Rounds
All MGH caregivers are invited to the Schwartz Center Rounds Sept. 25, noon to 1 pm, in the Walcott Conference Rooms. This month's discussion is entitled "Barriers to Personal Care in a Busy Academic Center." Lunch will be served beginning at 11:45 am. To attend, please call 4-6862.

Children's health meeting
The Association for the Care of Children's Health will hold an open meeting Sept. 28, 6 to 9 pm, in the Wellman Conference Room. The topic will be "How to Incorporate Family Centered Care into a Medical Delivery Model." Reservations are required. Monte Carlo ballet benefits Angel Fund
The world renowned dance troupe Les Ballets de Monte Carlo will dedicate its performance Sept. 30 to the Angel Fund, which supports research into ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) at the MGH. The evening's proceeds will benefit the MGH Day Neuromuscular Lab. The program, which will include a medley of dance pieces, will take place at 7 pm, at the New Copley Theatre, 225 Clarendon St., Boston. Tickets cost $65. Walk to fight breast cancer
MGHers will team up for the five-mile American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, Oct. 4. Registration and start both take place between 8 and 10 am at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade. Employees may pick up pledge sheets in the Cancer Resource Room on Cox 1.
