The Department of Surgery recently announced the results of the first
Surgical Research Council Junior Faculty Award competition.
The first winner is Laurence Rhame PhD, assistant professor in the Trauma
and Burns Division, for a study entitled "Identification of anti-infective
compounds produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa."
The second awardee is Sam Yoon, MD, instructor in Surgical Oncology, for
a study entitled "Calcipressin 1 inhibition of calcineurin in endothelial

The award program was established in 2004 by the Surgical Research Council
of the Department of Surgery and is chaired by David H. Sachs, MD, director
