Living
the dream: MGHers celebrate MLK Day
As
hundreds of celebrations took place this past week to pay tribute to the
memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a group of MGH employees gathered
Jan. 14 in the East Garden Dining Room to discuss how the legendary civil
rights leader affected them personally. At a special celebration hosted
by the Association
of Multicultural Members of Partners (AMMP), four MGH employees —
Meg Doucette, NP, of the Bulfinch Medical Group; Jack Oliver, of the MGH
Safety Office; James Young, of MGH Nutrition and Food Services; and Deborah
Washington, RN, director of Diversity for Patient Care Services —
shared their personal reflections of what Martin Luther King Day means
to them. Above, from left, Doucette,

To further inspire the audience, local singer Athene Wilson-Glover performed
moving contemporary songs, including a rousing rendition of "This
Little Light of Mine," accompanied by keyboardist Rollins Ross. Angela
Howard, of MGH Human Resources, led the audience with the song "Lift
Every Voice and Sing," which has become the African American national
anthem.
In addition, Rev. Felix Ojimba of MGH Chaplaincy, led the group in prayer,
and remarks were made by Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH; Jeff
Davis, senior vice president for Human Resources; and Helen Witherspoon,
of MGH Training and Workforce Development and chair of AMMP.
