• Sen. Kennedy helps celebrate 10 years of the MGH Community Benefit Program
  Saidali Abiyow was proud to be at the MGH June 6 with his wife and three children. A recent Somali-Bantu refugee and grateful patient of the MGH Chelsea HealthCare Center, Abiyow spoke to a standing-room-only crowd that had gathered under the Bulfinch Tent to celebrate the many accomplishments of the MGH Community Benefit Program in its 10 years of existence.

• Saluting dedicated service: Volunteer Recognition Day
  MGH employees, hospital leadership, trustees, families and friends gathered June 2 to pay tribute to a vital group of individuals who make countless contributions to the hospital community — MGH volunteers.

• Learning from Shackleton: Leadership Academy hosts first book club
  While it may be hard to pinpoint what qualities are needed to make a good leader, members
  of the MGH Leadership Academy gathered for their first book club discussion June 2 to learn about the leadership qualities of Earnest Shackleton depicted in the book “Leading at the Edge: Leadership Lessons from the Extraordinary Saga of Shackleton's Antarctic Expedition.”

• Health care reform advocacy opportunities
  Partners HealthCare and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts are working together on a new legislative initiative to support comprehensive health care reform to expand coverage for the uninsured, manage costs and provide fair reimbursement for the care of Medicaid and uninsured patients. All Partners and MGH employees are invited to participate in this initiative to help make it a success.

• Summer fun with the MGH Backup Child Care Center
  The warm weather that's finally made its way to New England has many MGH employees thinking about summer vacation — and also about summer childcare arrangements. For many working parents with young children, the coming months can be a challenging time of year with gaps between the end of school and the beginning of summer camp, and regular babysitters aren't always available. Luckily, when it isn't possible to line up time away from work with school vacation and other childcare issues, there is the MGH Back Up Child Care Center.

• MGH Men Against Abuse group hosts activities
  To help heighten awareness about domestic violence issues, the MGH Domestic Violence Working Group is introducing a new men's initiative called MGH Men Against Abuse. The group's goals are to foster awareness and offer educational opportunities about abuse and
  to encourage everyone — particularly men — to speak up and not remain silent about
  violence against women.
