Project HOPE volunteers honored at the White House

The team of MGH volunteers who went to Southern Asia in January to aid in the tsunami disaster relief efforts with the Project HOPE mission were honored at the White House July 21. During a volunteer recognition event on the south lawn of the White House, President George W. Bush thanked all of the Project HOPE medical volunteers from 37 states for their dedication to helping restore a region overwhelmed by two natural disasters -the tsunami that hit the region Dec. 26 and an earthquake that rocked Indonesia March 28. The Project HOPE volunteers devoted hours of time to provide health care services in support of the U.S. Navy's Operation Unified Assistance on the USNS Mercy. For more information about this special recognition, see next week's Hotline.
