MGHer awarded National Case Manager of the Year

Peter Moran, RN, a case manager in MGH Emergency Services (right), recently was the recipient of the 2005 National Case Manager of the Year Award given by the Case Manager Society of America (CMSA) at the National CMSA conference in Orlando, Fla. The award recognizes an individual whose notable contributions, leadership qualities and exceptional dedication have provided a positive vision for the future in the field of case management. Nominees must participate in the CMSA, have published an article in current literature for national, state or local distribution, conduct presentations about case management and support research among other criteria.

"Peter is in his element in this challenging environment," said Alasdair Conn, MD, chief of MGH Emergency Services, in his nomination letter. "Not only will he quickly respond to any request that the physicians or nursing staff relay to him, but he often works miracles in terms of the ultimate disposition of the patient."

Adds Nancy Sullivan, director of MGH Case Management, "He has the exceptional ability to do an in-depth and personalized assessment of a patient situation in a very busy and stress-filled environment and quickly develop a plan that meets the clinical, psychosocial and financial needs of the patient."
