Smile for the camera: Baby's first photos

Most parents of newborns will admit to taking many photos of their precious bundles of joy during their first few hours of life. With the help of the MGH Photography Department, proud new parents can add professional quality photos to their blossoming baby photo album. The MGH Photography Department took over the newborn photography service from an outside company in April 2004 with the goal of providing new parents at the MGH with better service and quality at more affordable prices. "We are proud to offer this convenient service to our patients," says Sam Riley, production supervisor for the Photography Department. "Entire families, near and distant, can receive high-quality digital prints of the new baby that also can be viewed and ordered through a secured website."

Parents can have their newborn photographed by signing a consent form and setting up an appointment with the Photography Department, between 9 am and 1 pm daily. Photographers are able to deliver the proof sheet of the photos taken and a complimentary certificate of arrival to the mother's room on the same day. A wide range of photo packages and framing options are available. Photo orders can be delivered while the mother is still in the hospital or can be mailed home.

For more information, contact the MGH Photography Department at (617) 726-2237 or send e-mail to mghbabyphotos@partners.org.
