EAP offerings
The MGH Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will sponsor a Work/Life seminar “A Quick Start to College Savings” Sept. 15, from noon to 1 pm in the Thier Conference Room. Harold Simansky of Educational Investments will address some of the key concerns and questions about saving and paying for education. For more information, visit www.eap.partners.org. The EAP also will offer training courses for managers and supervisors regarding the use of the EAP as a resource to assist with behavioral and mental health and substance abuse concerns. The training sessions will be held Sept. 21, from 3 to 5 pm and Nov. 3, from 1 to 3 pm in the Haber Conference Room. To register for either session, call (617) 726-6976.

Smoking cessation program
The MGH Quit Smoking Program will offer an evening smoking cessation program beginning Sept. 7 at 5:30 pm. This seven-week program includes information about preparing to quit, coping with stress without cigarettes, preventing weight gain and how to stay cigarette free. Fall 2005 HR course offerings
MGH Training and Workforce Development has released the fall 2005 Human Resources (HR) course offerings. Courses will cover communication and writing skills, time and project management, and understanding hospital finances. Medical terminology courses
Medical Terminology courses I and II will be offered this fall. Participants will learn to analyze, decipher, spell and pronounce medical terms. Medical Terminology I will be held Mondays beginning Sept. 26, from 4:45 to 6:45 pm. Medical Terminology II will be held Wednesdays beginning Sept. 28, from 4:45 to 6:45 pm. Spanish for health care
MGH Human Resources and Training and Workforce Development will offer five
levels of Spanish classes to help employees enhance the experience of Spanish-speaking patients and their families. Beginner I and II will be held Tuesdays beginning Sept. 20. Intermediate I and II and Advanced will be held Thursdays beginning Sept. 22. Each course will meet one evening per week for 14 weeks at 165 Cambridge St., second floor, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Registration will be held Sept. 9 and 13 by the East Garden Caf? staircase, from 11:30 am to 2 pm. The cost per course is $75 and includes the text and materials. Latino Heritage month
The MGH will celebrate the fifth annual Latino Heritage month Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. A Latino Heritage Celebration will be held Sept. 16 under the Bulfinch tent, from noon to 3:30 pm. Beginning at noon, MGH employees will showcase Hispanic-inspired artwork. From 12:30 to 1:30 pm, keynote speaker Uri Berenguer-Ramos, Spanish announcer for the Boston Red Sox, will share his experience as a cancer survivor. Marcela G. Del Carmen, MD, of MGH Vincent Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Cancer Center, will talk about disparities affecting Latino cancer patients. Salsa lessons will be taught from 2:30 to 3:30 pm. “Look Good, Feel Better” seminar
Mass General West Imaging in Waltham, in conjunction with the Waltham-Watertown Unit of the American Cancer Society, will hold a “Look Good, Feel Better” seminar Sept. 20, from 6 to 8 pm. This is a free program that teaches cancer patients about cosmetic techniques to help them cope with appearance-related side effects from chemotherapy or radiation treatments. Wig care, scarf and hat use, and skin and nail care will be discussed, and all participants will receive a free makeup kit. American-Cancer-Society-certified cosmetologists provide the service, which is nonmedical and does not promote any product line. Pre-registration is required. Bloodmobile at CNY
In conjunction with the MGH vs. BWH Blood Donor Challenge, the Bloodmobile will be at CNY Sept. 7 at 149 Thirteenth St., from 8:30 am to 2 pm.
