AMMP scholarships awarded to
deserving MGHers

"This year's advertisement for the AMMP awards ceremony begins, 'Balancing a full work and school life is not an easy thing to do. It takes dedication, energy and perseverance.' This statement truly exemplifies the determination that our scholarship recipients show in pursuit of their educational and career dreams," said Charmain Jackman, PhD, scholarship chair for AMMP — the Association of Multicultural Members of Partners — at the organization's scholarship awards ceremony.

The ceremony, held Sept. 8 in the MGH Training and Development Office, recognized nine MGHers for their commitment to continuing their education. The recipients were Corinne Castro, Milta Cruz, LaNetta Giacona, Angela Maina, Janice Maloof, Jacqueline McNeil, Sharif Nankoe, Waveney Small-Cole and Shevan Taylor. Scholarships were awarded in the amounts of $500 and $1,000 for certificate, undergraduate and graduate-level programs. In addition, the Institute of Health Professions contributed a three-credit scholarship totaling more than $2,000.

Among the speakers at this year's ceremony were Jackman; Helen Witherspoon, chair for AMMP; Jeff Davis, senior vice president for Human Resources and an AMMP advisor; Sandra Thomas, a past scholarship recipient; and Shea Sherrod Asfaw, public relations chair for AMMP. Asfaw recognized MGHers Charles Ciano, Cheryl Coss and LaNeia Thomas for the outstanding contributions they made to AMMP during the past year.
