Friends with Hope provide support for breast cancer research Barbara Smith, MD, PhD, director of the Gillette Center for Breast Cancer at the MGH Cancer Center, recently received a $20,000 donation from the "Friends with Hope" organization to support her breast cancer research. The money was raised through the organization's annual 5k walk and a dinner/dance charity event. "Friends with Hope" was created in January 2000 by Janet Ballantine
and Cheryl Cavallowho both subsequently lost their lives to breast
cancer. The organization's mission is to raise money for critical breast
cancer research and to help educate both women and men about early detection.
