Friends with Hope provide support for breast cancer research

Barbara Smith, MD, PhD, director of the Gillette Center for Breast Cancer at the MGH Cancer Center, recently received a $20,000 donation from the "Friends with Hope" organization to support her breast cancer research. The money was raised through the organization's annual 5k walk and a dinner/dance charity event.

"Friends with Hope" was created in January 2000 by Janet Ballantine and Cheryl Cavallo—who both subsequently lost their lives to breast cancer. The organization's mission is to raise money for critical breast cancer research and to help educate both women and men about early detection.
