Plaza Café now open
The Plaza Café, located on the third floor of the Simches Research
Center, 185 Cambridge St., now is open to all MGH employees. The café
— open Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm — features
full hot breakfast, pastries, salad bar, deli, grill station, paninis,
specialty coffees and smoothies. MGH ID badges must be shown at the front
desk to enter the building.
CRP education seminar
The Clinical
Research Program (CRP) and the Department
of Psychiatry will offer “Scientific Writing” Oct. 5,
12 and 19, from 4 to 5 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. This three-part
series will focus on clarifying the writer's interests, creating an outline,
writing multiple drafts and understanding the peer-review process. Registration
is

Longwood Symphony Orchestra benefit
concert
The Longwood Symphony Orchestra, Boston's orchestra of the medical community,
will perform a concert to benefit the Mattapan Community Health Center
Oct. 8. The concert will begin at 8 pm at Jordan Hall in Boston and will
feature acclaimed flutist Eugenia Zukerman. Tickets are $15 for students

National Materials Management Week
recognized
The MGH Materials Management Department will recognize National Materials
Management Week Oct. 2 to 8. The Materials Management staff from Patient
Transport and Equipment Services, Linen, Mail Services, Supply Support,
Receiving and Distribution and Customer Service provides support services
24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For more information about Materials

Alzheimer's pilot grant applications
The Massachusetts Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) expects to
fund up to three, one-year pilot grants at $35,000 each in direct costs,
to begin April 1, 2006. The grants are intended to fund trials of novel
ideas that have not otherwise received support. Applications will be judged
on the basis of scientific merit, novelty and value of the project. Investigators
who have received previous ADRC funding are not eligible for this project.
Applicants will be notified of award decisions by mail after Dec. 5. For

Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Center
open house
The MGH Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Center will host an open house
for all interested staff Oct. 6, from noon to 3 pm at 25 New Chardon St.,
Suite 301. The center includes the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, the
Heart Attack Primary Prevention Program and the Cardiac Metabolic Syndrome
Program. Healthy snacks, a tour of the facility and relaxation classes
will be available. There also will be a chance to win an Apple iPod Shuffle.
