Senior HealthWISE lecture
MGH
Senior HealthWISE will offer "Tips for Healthy Eating and Grocery
Shopping" Oct. 25, from 11 am to noon in the Walcott Conference Rooms.
The lecture will be presented by Dana Brennan, RD, LDN, of MGH Nutrition
and Food Services. The event is open to seniors age 60 years and older.

EAP manager and supervisor training
The MGH Employee
Assistance Program (EAP) will host a manager and supervisor training
session Nov. 3, from 1 to 3 pm in the Haber Conference Room. Participants
will learn skills to manage time, control stress and to remain focused

Elder care discussion group
The Employee Assistance
Program (EAP) will hold its monthly elder care discussion group Oct.
25, from noon to 1 pm in the J. Eric Doerr Conference Center, Room 10650,
on the 10th floor of the Yawkey Center. Facilitator Janet T. Loughlin,
LICSW, CEAP, of Partners EAP, and speaker Barbara Moscowitz, LICSW, MGH
geriatric social worker, will discuss normal aging, identifying when there
is a problem and the basic steps to begin planning for care. For more

History of MGH Radiation Oncology lecture
The MGH Radiation Oncology Department will host the third session of its
lecture series Oct. 25, from 5 to 6 pm in the Ether Dome. Presenter Herman
D. Suit, MD, DPhil, former chief of Radiation Oncology, will discuss the
history of Radiation Oncology at the MGH from 1945 to 1970. For more information,

Alternative healing presentation
The MGH Case Management Department will host "East Meets West: Additional
Approaches to Healing" Oct. 27, from 1:30 to 2:30 pm in the O'Keeffe
Auditorium. Regina Powers, RN, MSN, FNP-C, will cover topics including
acupuncture, massage therapy, yoga and relaxation techniques. For more

Esru Chag Simchat Torah service
The MGH
Chaplaincy will host an Esru Chag Simchat Torah service Oct. 27, from
10:30 to 11 am as part of Yamim Nora'im 5766 — the Jewish High Holy
Days. Challah, grape juice and a snack will be served. All are welcome

Nominations for the Nathaniel Bowditch Prize
The MGH Board of Trustees and the Nathaniel Bowditch Prize Selection Committee
are seeking nominations for the 2006 Nathaniel Bowditch Prize. The $5,000
award will be presented to an MGH employee or team — clinicians
or nonclinicians — who have made a significant contribution to improving
the quality of care at the hospital while reducing its cost. Nomination
forms are available in the Main Lobby, the Blum Patient and Family Learning
Center, the Bigelow 10 nursing office and the Massachusetts General Physicians
Organization office on Bulfinch 2. All nominations should be submitted
by Nov. 1 to Andrew Warshaw, MD, chairman of the Bowditch Prize Selection

Schwartz Center symposium and dinner
The Kenneth
B. Schwartz Center will host a symposium "Beyond the White Coat
and the Johnny: What Makes for a Compassionate Patient-Caregiver Relationship?"
Nov. 3, from 3 to 5 pm at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
Facilitated by journalist John Hockenberry, the event features a panel
discussion about compassionate health care, based on the findings of Darshak
Sanghavi, MD, a fellow at Children's Hospital Boston and columnist for
the Boston Globe. Following the discussion, the center will host its 10th
annual dinner beginning at 5 pm. The symposium is free and open to the
