MGHers win International Sharps Injury Prevention Award

Brian French, RN, professional development coordinator for the MGH Knight Nursing Center for Clinical and Professional Development, and Susan Loomis, RN, director of Occupational Health for Partners HealthCare, have been selected as two of the six winners of the 2005 International Sharps Injury Prevention Award. The award is presented by Managing Infection Control magazine and the International Sharps Injury Prevention Society. The peer-nominated award calls for health care professionals to recommend colleagues who have gone beyond the call of duty to make the workplace safer for both patients and staff.

Loomis and French (seen above) have been dedicated to communicating to physicians, nurses and staff the importance of safe practices and safe product use to prevent sharps injuries at the MGH. Both have been active members of the MGH Needlestick Reduction Task Force since its inception in 1991. "It's an honor to receive this award in recognition of our work, and we are happy to accept it on behalf of the dedicated clinicians and staff of the Needlestick Reduction Task Force," said French.
