• David Brudnoy estate gives generous donation to namesake fund
  The David Brudnoy Fund for AIDS Research at the MGH has received $400,000 from the estate of the well-known and respected Boston radio commentator and talk show host who created the fund. The unrestricted bequest was presented to the hospital Dec. 9, the first anniversary of Brudnoy's death from cancer.
  

• Cancer Center employees receive support during the holidays and beyond
  While the holidays are generally seen as a time for joy and happiness, for those who are dealing with an illness and those caring for these patients, the holidays can be stressful and filled with sadness. To deal with this issue, the MGH Cancer Center recently held a program "Coping with the Holidays: Balancing Joy and Sadness When Working in a Health Care Setting"Nov. 18 for its support staff — medical assistants, staff assistants, phlebotomists and patient service coordinators

• Remembering domestic violence victims
  This year, 16 people died in Massachusetts as a direct result of violence by an intimate partner. On Dec. 9, the MGH community came together to celebrate the lives of victims of domestic violence through music, readings and reflection in a moving service held in the hospital chapel, which was filled to capacity.

• Tarbell named first C.C. Wang Professor of Radiation Oncology
  At a recent ceremony held at Harvard Medical School (HMS), Nancy Tarbell, MD, became the first incumbent for the newly established C.C. Wang, MD, Professorship in Radiation Oncology at HMS and the MGH.

• Timilty students enjoy Partners IMAX® film
  Students from the Timilty Middle School were among more than 300 Boston Public School students who were on hand at the world premiere of the Partners-produced IMAX format film, Wired to Win, Surviving the Tour de France, held Dec. 1 at the Museum of Science in Boston.

• Clean hands keep patients healthy and happy
  Congratulations to Ellison 6, Ellison 14, White 11, Ellison 3, Phillips 22, Bigelow 11 and Ellison 7 for achieving the third-quarter goal of the 2005 MGH Hand Hygiene Clean Sweepstakes contest. These seven inpatient units met the compliance challenge of 70 percent before patient contact and 80 percent after patient contact.
  

• CIMIT team receives innovation award
  The Center for the Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT) awarded its Edward M. Kennedy Award for Health Care Innovation to the CIMIT-Russia team for treating an avian flu surveillance program.
