In memoriam: Edward W."Ted"Webster,
MD, PhD
Edward W. "Ted" Webster, MD, PhD, formerly of MGH Radiology,
died Dec. 17. He was 83 years old.
Webster joined the MGH in 1954, spending 47 years at the hospital before
his retirement in 2001. During his tenure, he served as a radiation safety
officer and chairman of the Radiation Safety and Radioactive Drug Research
Committee. In 1983,
he received the Coolidge Award, the highest honor presented by the American
Association of Physicists in Medicine, of which he was a member. He also
received the gold medal from the American College of Radiology in 1991.
During the course of his career, Webster authored more than 120 research
papers and presented more than 200 lectures. As professor emeritus of
Radiology at Harvard Medical School, he taught some of the country's brightest
radiology students. He also taught at Harvard University, the Harvard
School of Public Health, Northeastern University and the New England Roentgen
Ray Society. A memorial service honoring Webster currently is being planned.
