Stoeckle receives Advancement of Psychotherapy award

John D. Stoeckle, MD, a long-time primary care physician at the MGH and namesake of the Stoeckle Center for Primary Care Innovation, recently received an award for his "leadership in the advancement of mental health care and his enduring leadership in advancing the doctor-patient relationship."

The award was presented by Ann Alonso, PhD, of MGH Psychiatry and founder of the Endowment for the Advancement of Psychotherapy. "Those of us in the mental health profession have always looked to Dr. Stoeckle not only for his leadership in advocating for mental health care in the primary care setting but also for his inspiration, mentorship and his compassion for his patients," said Alonso. Above, Alonso congratulates Stoeckle.

The award appropriately was bestowed on Stoeckle March 10 at a General Medicine grand rounds session about empathy in the doctor-patient relationship that was presented by Helen Riess, MD, and Carl Marci, MD.
