Safety reporting system "goes live"

The new web-based Safety Reporting System that is replacing the MGH's paper-based incident reporting process went live this week, allowing all staff to submit online reports about safety concerns, events or "near misses." The system makes safety reporting easier, allows faster follow-up on reports and provides an opportunity to make improvements more quickly.

The system now can be accessed from the Start menu on Partners workstations by selecting "Partners Applications" and then "Safety Reporting MGH." Users must log out and log back in as a new user or restart the computer.

Phase one training still is underway for departments — such as Patient Care Services, Pharmacy, Pathology, Materials Management, Environmental Services, Police and Security, Occupational Health, Biomedical Engineering, and Nutrition and Food Services. Phase one training will continue until May 31.

Phase two training — to be conducted from June through August — will include physicians, administrative departments through outpatient practices including primary care, specialty practices and the health centers, as well as new house staff and other medical trainees. Phase three training — from September through December — will include researchers and research administration.

Visit http://safety.massgeneral.org for more information about training including schedules, online tutorials and self-training modules. For more information about training, call (617) 726-0167. For help reporting an event using the new system, page the Safety Reporting - Help beeper at 1-2355.
