In memoriam: Michael T. Ty, MD

Michael T. Ty, MD, 28, a resident in the Partners Neurology Training Program died April 3 in a tragic construction accident on Boylston Street, Boston. He was one of three men who died when scaffolding fell from a 14-story building.

Ty graduated from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in 1999 and earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School (HMS). At HMS, he was awarded the Kennedy Sheldon Fellowship for the study of ethics and moral theology at Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, Italy. He completed his first year of residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and then joined the Partners Neurology program in 2005.

Ty is remembered as a selfless, compassionate and truly gifted physician who
was highly respected by colleagues for his intelligence, initiative and eagerness
for knowledge.
