• Marathon Monday: Triumphant runners and inspiring patients
  While thousands of people cheered on runners of the 110th annual Boston Marathon April 17, a special group gathered at Heartbreak Hill to cheer on the MGH Marathon Team "Fighting Kids Cancer ... One Step at a Time" and the MGH Cystic Fibrosis Marathon Team.

• Precious gift gives life new meaning for 16-year-old patient
  When her Natick High School classmates ask 16-year-old Laurie Lukianov about the pale scar on her neck at the base of her throat, she'll jokingly tell them she was stabbed. If Laurie's tall tale sounds dramatic, the truth about her scars is perhaps even more so. They are a visible reminder that she is here today because of the generosity of a family she will never know, who donated the liver that keeps her alive.

• Children and HealthCare Week celebrates 10 years
  For 10 years, the MGH's youngest patients have been recognized, honored and celebrated with a special week of activities dedicated to the quality care provided by MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHC).

• Recognizing excellence: The Bowditch Prize
  The two-member team of Theresa Gallivan, RN, associate chief nurse, and Hasan Bazari, MD, program director for the Department of Medicine Training Program, was named this year's recipient of the annual Nathaniel Bowditch Prize, along with co-winner G. William Dec, MD, chief of Cardiology.

• Medication Reconciliation Program
  To help reduce the risk of medication errors, the MGH will be launching an electronic medication reconciliation process April 25 that will help clinicians track medication lists for both outpatients and inpatients.

• Tracers: like treasure maps
  The latest poster in the FYI poster series was distributed throughout the hospital this week to illustrate the new tracer method that the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) will use during the upcoming, unannounced survey.
